Charles Waldheim and Robert Bruegmann - Dialog on Landscape Urbanism

Landscape Urbanism is a topic that considers the landscape in the context of contemporary urban development and public works, as opposed to being defined as an art historical genre, an environmental science, or an applied art. Landscape Urbanism focuses on the design of public buildings, public spaces, and landscapes, as well as elements of urban infrastructure. We will hear about this topic through a discussion with leading authorities on the subject: Charles Waldheim on Landscape Urbanism and Robert Bruegmann on the past and present waterfront development of Chicago.

Charles Waldheim is the Director of Landscape Architecture at the University of Toronto and recent winner of the prestigious Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome. Charles recently edited The Landscape Urbanism Reader (New York: Princeton Architectural Press, 2006).

Robert Bruegmann is currently Professor and Chair of the Art History Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and most recent book is concerned with urban planning and is entitled: Sprawl: A Compact History.

Admission is free for all.
