water tanks (general)

1. there is no specific information regarding the physical dimensions (drawing or otherwise) of the tanks and there is no standard dimension.

2. there is currently no document which maps the location of the water tanks in the city. aerial photos can be helpful in locating them.

3. there is no exact count of remaining tanks or platforms in the city, though it is guessed to be several hundred. what is known is that they are disappearing at an alarming rate.

4. some water tanks have been removed leaving only the structural platform. these may be used in any or all of the scheme.

5. random photos appear on the website of water tanks throughout the city. this is meant to give people a general sense of the water tanks and not to suggest anything more.

more specific questions and their answers:

1. Are the tanks to stay in place or can proposals suggest moving them?

this is at the discretion of the entrant.

2. Must the tanks stay "as is" or can they be altered in some way?

this is at the discretion of the entrant.

3. Must they all remain functional in some way?

this is at the discretion of the entrant.

4. Are all the city tanks going to be salvaged? If some are going to stay then on what basis would that decision be made? Would they stay where they are right now or would they be moved elsewhere? Is it possible and economical to relocate? Are these still easily accessible (safety issues)? Is a site visit possible? After the preservation would they remain the property of the owner or would it fall under city?

this is at the discretion of the entrant.

5. Is our competition solution to be applied to all types of water towers (like the different images) or can it be just a specific select few. Is the competition more like a theme that will be applied to all water towers throughout the city?

this is at the discretion of the entrant.

6. What kind of assumptions can we make regarding access to the water towers? Should it be assumed that only people who work/live/own the building containing the water tower have access to it (as that is the current situation) or could utilize any type of improvement/reuse of the towers?

this is at the discretion of the entrant.

7. can proposals suggest they are inhabited by the public...or only viewed from a distance? and who would maintain the project once it is built?

this is at the discretion of the entrant.
